NRECUS: What and Why

The West, in particular the United States, have entered into a period of concern: A Post-Christian Era. Secularism has caused churches, which had played an important role in all sectors of life, to be marginalized and trivialized. Churches are also increasingly deemed irrelevant in this modern world. Believing that the Gospel has lost its power in this age, many churches have compromised their beliefs and search to answer the challenges of secularism by embracing liberalism. While many other churches compromised the purity and simplicity of the Gospel with moralistic and therapeutic teachings.

In the midst of this age where more and more churches seem to have lost their true identity:
Who are the true defenders of faith?
Who are the dynamic preachers of the Word of God?
Who execute God's commandments consistently?
Who understand God's eternal plan and the vitality of His Words?

Hasn't history taught us that the people with this zeal were the ones that inherited the churches with the true faith and doctrines, and the fire of evangelism through the power of the Holy Spirit? Who among us, then, will carry on this zeal and fire for this and the coming ages?

IS IT YOU? ARE YOU THE LEADER OF THE FUTURE?

Find God's will and guidance. Come to the "National Reformed Evangelical Convention in US" (NRECUS) initiated by Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong and STEMI colleagues on -.

What is NREC and what is its connection with NRECUS?

NREC was a 5 year program initiated by Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong and his STEMI colleagues in Indonesia (2004 – 2008). Taking a theme of "Faith, Knowledge, and Service," NREC was intended to spread the spirit of the Reformed Evangelical movement to other churches in Indonesia. After five consecutive years, NREC with its 1,500 annual attendees, has grounded the true faith on the true understanding to better equip Christians in serving the Lord.

The Reformed Evangelical movement is a drive needed by all churches today, including Indonesian churches in the US. We are profoundly grateful that NREC can be held in the US. NREC in Indonesia had become a blessing for many churches in Indonesia. It is our hope that NRECUS will make a great impact on many Indonesian churches in the US as well.

Why Reformed Evangelical?

Stressing the sovereignty of God that there is no accidents outside of the sovereign will of God, Reformed Theology gives a firm foundation for a Christian to understand and to live out his/her life in this age. Through its doctrine of the Bible, Reformed Theology advocates that the Bible not only the authority but also the sufficiency to answer all aspects of life. Through its understanding of the cultural mandate, Reformed Theology seeks to carry and implement the Word of God in all social and cultural dimensions. After almost 500 years, Reformed Theology has proven itself to be a comprehensive system of theology, one that is capable to answer the challenges faced by churches throughout the ages.

Reformed Evangelical is a movement that has received and continues to pledge to carry on the Reformed Theology it inherited. However, a strong and comprehensive system of doctrine by itself is not enough. The fire of evangelism, sadly, has often been forgotten by the Reformed churches. Without doctrines, churches will lose their directions. Without evangelism, churches will have no future. True doctrines and the fire of evangelism cannot be separated one from another. The Reformed Evangelical movement is a glorious movement, God's call for the churches to keep the true faith inherited throughout the ages and to keep evangelizing this age.

Who is NRECUS for?

NRECUS is opened for all, be it laymen or church ministers, those who are aware and share the same concern for the condition of current churches in this age and who have the desire to be better equipped in shaping pure and healthy churches today.
